Photo of the Day - Blizzard the Wolf

As many of you know, I only photograph animals in the wild in natural situations (I don't bait or lure animals in).  It makes for some pretty long, boring days of traipsing about in the woods finding the odd squirrel, but it also makes for some incredibly exciting days when I do run into wild predators like wolves or mountain lions.

Blizzard, a member of a Pipestone wolf family

I spent almost 50 days in the field last winter tracking the Pipestone wolf pack and really only had 2 good days photographing them.  This image of Blizzard was taken last January (2010) in a light snowfall along the Icefields Parkway on one of those two days.

Blizzard is a two-year old female wolf going into her third winter.  On some days she runs at the sight of a car or person, on others she's like a curious puppy.

Enjoy!

John- This is just an incredible photo! I just had the pleasure of photographing my first wild wolf in Yellowstone feeding on a elk carcass. Keep up the great work!
